I actually dreaded putting this goal as my play of the week seeing that another Liverpool man Mane took home the prize last week. Hey I can’t help myself no matter what angle you see this one you just can’t get enough of it. The day was 16th of October 2021. It was former premier league winner coach Ranieri’s first match with Watford. It is the 54th minute. Watford are hopelessly being outplayed by the high pressing rampant Liverpool. The three amigos of Salah, Mane and Firmino were back together. Firmino’s pass found Salah on the edge of the box surrounded by three hornets defenders. He danced around all three like they were not there. Veteran defender Cathcart still had some fight in him and tried to block the Egyptian’s path he was duly sat down. Between this one and Salah’s goal versus City I say it is a tie. Shades of Anthony Yeboah’s long range crossbar shuttering shots in 1996 it is tough to choose which one is the best. It will be an international incident if this guy doesn’t win the Ballon D’or.

The other play which takes the prize along with Salah is the Jacksonville Jaguars’s comeback last gasp win over the Miami Dolphins courtesy of a last second punt from Michael Wright. The Dolphins were ruling the pitch for the first half but the Jax came roaring back in the second shutting out Miami in the third quarter. The match seemingly was going into OT at 20-20. The Jax had the ball at the 40 yard line , first down to ten yards one second to go. Passing was out of the question. This was as extremely high pressure as you can get in Football with opposition defenders charging down on Wright as he was about to kick with a second to go, way down on the 40 yard line so there wasn’t really a choice here. It was make or break and by golly he made it. He was 3 for 3 from the boot to boot.
