Mark Cavendish repeating the Stage 4 heroics. Some exciting sprints on show in the 160km Charteroux race. The final one was great to watch. With 200 meters to go, Mark had some work to do to win it with a number of riders right in front of him blocking every path I could see. He needed to find the gap and fill it before another rider could do it. A rider who was not so fortunate to find a gap was rider number 203310 Tim Merlier. Check out the clip right at the death, he was literally the meat in the sandwich of Mark and second placed at the end Jasper Philipsen. I think at the end he decided to pull back to give his teammate Jasper the chance to win it or to avoid a crash. Why it didn’t appeal to have two Alpecin-Fenix riders on the podium? I have no idea. Nevertheless good win for the rejuvenated Mark.

The sprint race on the 55 km mark won by Greg Van Avermaet of Belgium was also eventful. There were a few partial obstructions in that sprint leading to the winner in the green jersey there finger wagging at the end. Mathieu Van Der Poel still leads the GC standings by 8 seconds over defending champ Tadej Pogacar
